Genie in a Box
Atlanta Resident Hope Flammer witnessed the power of the voice first-hand after a gravely ill friend made a full recovery, thanks in part to his friends talking to him and telling him stories while he was unconscious. The experience inspired Flammer to create the VoiceQuilt, handcrafted wooden keepsake boxes that play messages friends and family record by calling a toll-free telephone number. Each box (there are four styles, and prices range from $110 to $250) has a player containing up to three hours of messages and comes with a play list, fast forward and rewind buttons and volume control. On top, there’s a piece of glass under which you can insert a photo. “To me, it’s like a genie in the box,” Flammer says. “You open it and the person appears…One things we hear consistently is “You should have bput Kleenex in the keepsake!” Available at 800-764-8533 or www.voicequilt.com.
