MARIETTA, GA -- Marietta-based VoiceQuilt, which helps families create keepsakes personalized with recorded voice messages, has been named one of Georgia's Top 40 Innovators by the Technology Association of Georgia (TAG). Winners were chosen from across the state based on specific criteria including degree of innovation, scope and financial impact of innovation, likelihood of success and promotion of Georgia's innovative efforts nationally and internationally. This is the third year TAG has sponsored this technology competition.
“We are thrilled to be recognized so early in our company's history,” said Hope Flammer, founder of VoiceQuilt. “Obviously, I believe in our product, but it's extremely gratifying to receive this validation from such a prestigious organization,” she said.
Flammer was inspired to create VoiceQuilt in 2005 after hearing the encouraging words her best friend spoke to her hospitalized husband. Flammer believes her friend's familiar voice providing words of support was instrumental in the husband's recovery, and she began to imagine how the voices of friends and family could be recorded and preserved as an inspirational gift. Rebundling existing technology, she began to develop and patent her idea, eventually quitting her corporate marketing job to focus on VoiceQuilt full-time.
“VoiceQuilt looks and works a lot like an heirloom music box,” explained Flammer. “But instead of playing music when the lid is opened, the keepsake plays voice messages from family and friends. Each VoiceQuilt Keepsake is a scrapbook of voice-based memories around those ‘goosebump moments’ we all share -- birthdays, anniversaries, weddings, graduation or even difficult times. A VoiceQuilt can be preserved for years to come in a keepsake – or delivered electronically in digital music players like the IPOD. As far as I know, there's never been anything like it,” she said.
VoiceQuilt will be featured, along with the other honored companies, at TAG's annual Georgia Technology Summit Feb. 28, 2007 at the Cobb Galleria Center. “In just a few years, the Top 40 Innovators has become a major part of the Georgia technology community,” said Tino Mantella, president of TAG. “We are looking forward to again having the privilege to shine the spotlight on some of the state's most creative companies,” he said.
