Today Is the First day of Summer – and Family Reunion Season
According to GroupTravel.org over 65% of all family reunions are held in the summer.
“The availability of outdoor locations and activities is a popular reason as are the fact that the weather is nicer, kids are out of school and summer is generally an easier time to travel for most,” explains GroupTravel.org.
Planning a family reunion or family vacation? Be sure to check out the family reunion tips at Reunions Magazine. You’ll find family activities, games, food planning suggestions, icebreakers, fundraising tips and more. If you subscribe to the magazine, you’ll receive even more detailed information – as well as a reunion planning workbook.
If you’d like to collect family stories during the reunion, we suggest asking each family member to bring a photo, heirloom or favorite recipe. Then, ask each to do “show and tell”. If you’d like to collect detailed family history, professional Bridget Poizner suggests professional recording equipment and a list of open-ended interview questions.
Many VoiceQuilt families record favorite reunion memories as a thank-you gift for the reunion organizer. We always urge them to include voice messages from children. Although they’re small, they remember some of the funniest things that happen when families get together!
Happy first day of summer and happy reunion planning!
