Birthday Ideas

Formal Birthday Parties
VoiceQuilt and birthday celebrations go hand-in-hand.  Sometimes, a VoiceQuilt is part of formal party planning: VoiceQuilt dialing instructions are included with RSVP cards sent out with paper birthday party invitations.  Or, a VoiceQuilt e-mail invitation is sent out via Evite after e-mail party invitations are sent.  In these situations, playing a portion of the VoiceQuilt at the party – and presenting it to the recipient – provides a focus for the party and a meaningful memento.

The Low Key or "I don't want all that fuss" Recipient
Our biggest surprise has been how powerful VoiceQuilt is for birthday recipients that don't want a big celebration. With VoiceQuilt, friends and family can honor the request for a "low key" celebration but still phone in greetings, memories, poems and tributes. The resulting collage is very similar to the toasts given by party guests after a long and joyful meal. Better still, your recipient can savor those tributes over and over again.

Please review the "Top Birthday Tips List" with those ideas in mind.

  1. Mailing or e-mailing a formal party invitation? Include VoiceQuilt instructions!
    See our sample here.
  2. Include friends from the Recipient's work, clubs, school, neighborhood and religious organization.
    • If the VoiceQuilt is for your sister, take a look at e-mail jokes or recipes she has sent you.  Chances are that her closest neighborhood, church and club friends are also copied on that e-mail.
    • If the VoiceQuilt is for your Mom, ask Dad to secure Mom's address book – or better still – look for an excuse to log into her computer and e-mail yourself addresses in her address book.
    • If the VoiceQuilt is for a daughter, friend or spouse, send their best friend an e-mail invitation and ask them to forward it on.  Work colleagues can be especially helpful.  Simply e-mail an invitation to a friend or assistant and ask them to forward it on to as many people as possible.
  3. Use VoiceQuilt's sample e-mail invitation as a starting point – then add your own special touches.  We'll save that text in our system so that you can add more invitations as you receive more e-mail addresses.
  4. Include messages from children.
Over and over again, our customers tell us that VoiceQuilt Gift Recipients cherish the songs, jokes and special memories left by children and grandchildren.  If a child is young, ask parents or caregivers to call in for them.
  5. Dial a sister in law – and make a few phone calls, yourself, too.
Every family or group has a few strong leaders.  If you are in a hurry, make a phone call and ask for help in inviting – and cajoling – the group.
  6. Add an Engraved Brass Plaque. For only $12.95, you can add a brass plaque engraved with your recipient's name, the date of the event and a meaningful quote. It's a quick and easy way to personalize your gift even more. Download an order form here.

Ironically enough, the people closest to your recipient might have the most difficult time leaving a message.  Some are worried about saying the perfect thing; others are preoccupied and need a little reminder.
