Many of us have treasured memories of making Christmas cookies with Grandma, or preparing a special Hanukah feast. But in today's far-flung families, grandparents and grandchildren often live in different cities.
This is the situation facing Vicki, whose granddaughter, Sarah, lives several states away. When Sarah was younger, Vicki created a VoiceQuilt of bedtime stories by asking Sarah's parents, Aunts and Uncles to take turns reading Sarah's favorite picture books. Now, Vicki turned to VoiceQuilt to cement the cherished family tradition of holiday cooking.
With the help of her sister and daughter, Vicki gathered favorite family recipes. She then asked family members to call the toll-free VoiceQuilt phone number with stories and memories associated with the recipes. Someday, Sarah will be an adult creating her own family traditions. Across time and distance, she will have the encouraging voices of her grandmother, mother, great aunt and others, reminding her of the importance of family.
