Catherine is one of those people who has touched many lives. Her extended family and friends know how special she is … and they all wanted to honor her in a big way when she turned 50.

Catherine's cousin, Ellin, was particularly determined to make the birthday memorable. The two women are extremely close – more like sisters than cousins. For Ellin's 50th birthday, Catherine had culled through old family photos, creating a beautiful photo book entitled "50 Years of Friendship". Ellin wanted her gift to be just as unique yet something Catherine had never seen or heard of before.

VoiceQuilt to the rescue! After signing up with VoiceQuilt, Ellin used an online photo site to create a paper invitation featuring pictures of Catherine as a toddler, teen and an adult. Inside, she asked family and friends to phone in toasts and tributes for Catherine by calling VoiceQuilt's toll-free number.

Over 100 of Catherine's friends, family and surrogate children responded to the mailing with heart-felt tributes. In a high tech twist, Ellin downloaded the VoiceQuilt playlist into an IPOD as her gift. She also purchased an archive CD so that Catherine's memories would be preserved for generations to come.

Ellin, Catherine and several close girlfriends planned a trip to Hawaii to celebrate. There, they presented her with the VoiceQuilt. Catherine was overwhelmed by the messages from well-wishers ranging from an 85-year-old uncle to numerous children … one of whom played "Happy Birthday" to her on the flute.

It was the celebration of a lifetime, a unique tribute to a life well-lived by a person well-loved.
