Christmas was fast approaching and Allyson faced her annual dilemma. What should she give to her husband's parents? They had everything they needed. And, since the extended family gathered in Santa Cruz each year for the holidays, the ideal gift would one that included each of the adult children and grandchildren.
When a friend told her about VoiceQuilt, Allyson knew she had the ideal gift solution. Allyson e-mailed her husband's siblings, nieces and nephews, asking them to please call in a Christmas greeting and talk about a favorite holiday memory. "Since you can call VoiceQuilt at any time from any phone, it was easy for all of the kids and grandkids to participate. In fact, we had everyone's messages recorded in just two days," said Allyson.
Needless to say, her in laws were thrilled to hear the heartfelt memories. Some messages included Christmas songs, some remembered special gifts or outings, and nearly all mentioned the family tradition of eating tamales together on Christmas Eve.
Now this family has a new Christmas tradition. Each year, the VoiceQuilt Keepsake is brought out and enjoyed with all the other cherished holiday mementos. Perhaps it will even be played by Allyson's family just before they sit down to their annual Christmas Eve tamale dinner!
